The Power Paint Sprayer That Ruined My Life

Don’t Buy “Wagner Power Painter 5.4 GPH”  Because It Will Ruin Your Life… and Projects.

Wagner Power Paint Sprayer BAD Review

Last week, I was having a bad day.  The good old husband knows exactly how to cheer me up:  He takes me to Lowes!  I had been thinking lots and lots about getting a power paint sprayer, since I have been painting loads of things lately.  I wanted a paint sprayer to save time on my projects.  We settled on buying the Wagner Power Painter 5.4 GPH.  I have been so so so excited to try it out!

Tonight I tried it out.  And I am NOT a happy camper.   In fact, I am straight up furious.  Something that was supposed to cut my time in half has just DOUBLED my time on this project.  I followed the directions meticulously.  I did everything I was supposed to… it said to let it spray for a minute to get a steady flow.   Well that never happened.  It sputtered and dribbled the WHOLE TIME.  It sputtered all over my project (which happens to be my mom’s cedar chest).  Now I am going to have to sand all the splutter chunks off and start over.  Awesome.  This was its first time out of the box, and so it was definitely not clogged.  It just sucked.  So bad.  What a waste of money.  I was ready to drop kick this piece of junk into the neighbor’s back yard, but I want my money back, so I didn’t do that.  You guys, it was so bad… the horrendous result literally had me in tears of frustration.  Grrrr!

I still want a power sprayer, but I am going to be much more careful in which product I buy next time.  I am going to read LOTS of reviews.  Do any of you have any recommendations on power sprayers?

I feel your pain this thing is a total POS!!! I ruined a project with one of these things, it made 3x the work it would have been if I’d just rattle canned or even rolled or brushed the damned thing. It shouldn’t even be on the market! They should have to pay anyone who’s ever owned one of these turds a $1K for pain and suffering as well as an in person apology from the company. Look into a 3 or 4 stage hvlp sprayer. Fuji makes great ones.

I totally agree it can be a real pain. A couple tips should you be brave enough to give it another go.

    1. Use a paint thinner. You don’t want to make it too thin because then it won’t cover properly. But the spattering and dribbling was due to your paint being to thick.

    2. I reserve using a sprayer for large projects because its a mess however your slice it. I felt much better about the clean up work after I got my entire bedroom set painted in two hours. :)

    3. For big projects use the hose!

Those are great tips! I’ve been doing some research on other paint sprayers to try out. I think my biggest issue was that my paint was too thick. Thanks for stopping by Jessica!
