Rockport Gray Paint: Open Concept Color

Did we all survive the weekend?  Are we all ready for next weekend already?!  Yep.  Thought so.

Let me take you back to a time when the world didn’t make sense. When the living room, dining room, and kitchen were 3 different rooms… with 3 different wall colors, and 3 different floorings:

Eclectic Living Room

I’ve been really looking forward to painting and making it one cohesive space.  We polled you on facebook, and dang!  You are all very opinionated when it comes to paint color.

We tested 4 paint samples.  From left to right: Revere Pewter, Rockport Gray, Moonshine Gray, Edgecomb Gray
At first Aaron and I were really leaning towards Moonshine Gray.

Until we held up a piece of flooring to the samples.

Since the color would be going on top of white board and batten, and the cabinets are white, and the flooring is a lighter color, we thought a darker paint color would look great.  Rockport Gray it was.

So our awesome friends and parents came over to help us get ‘er done.

While we were priming, Aaron was painting the ceiling.  THE WORLD’S WORST CHORE.  When we have kids big enough to hold a paint brush, if they get grounded, their punishment will be to paint the ceiling.

When the primer was dry, we slapped a chalk line where the board and batten would be.  We’re doing 6 ft tall board and batten.

White on the bottom.  Aaron called it the white citadel.  And for good reason.  It was a little too hospital-esque for me.  The Rockport Gray couldn’t come fast enough.

And that’s the saga of Rockport Gray and how it ended up on our walls, making it ONE open space.

looking good! I’m so glad you picked my choice of color! lol, Like I was the reason you chose it, I need to get over myself! hahha. At least your babies stayed out of the madness. I can’t even get maggie to move out from under me when I’m sitting still let alone with all the excitement! I love the way the rockport looks with the flooring too, and your mom is so precious! And oh my goodness I have painted a ceiling before and it is PURE TORTURE!

    • Kenz

Indy and Buster HATE commotion. They gladly stay out of the way. And for that, I am SO grateful. I’m glad you approve of the Rockport Gray :) What would I do if you hated it?! haha!

  • Emma (Broke Ass Home)

That color looks SO good with your cabinets. I love the new light fixtures too!

    • Kenz

Oh thank you! I was wondering if anyone would notice the new lights up! Leave it to Emma :)

  • Stephanie, Sandpaper and Glue

you are moving right along!! closer and closer to it all being done and ahmazing!! :)

    • Kenz

I am so happy that it is moving in the right direction. I think it will REALLY start to feel like a room when we have the floors installed.

  • Michelle

Ooo, that kitchen. It’s making me drool. A lot. Love the wall color too. Good life decision.

    • Kenz

I’m so happy when I make good life decisions. It’s not often… so, I deserve a cookie or something.

  • Katja @ Shift Ctrl Art

WOW it looks so good already. What a dream space it is going to be. Love that you went with the darker gray with that floor. Perfect!!!!

    • Kenz

Thanks! It really looks SO good with the flooring we chose. I think it was the best option :)

  • Ainhoa

It looks awesome, great choice. Have you thought about painting the vaulted ceiling? Would that be too much? I just looove the wall color!
Edit: I meant painting the ceiling Rockport Gray as well. Though you probably don’t want to paint the ceiling again anytime soon… ;)

    • Kenz

I LOVE the look of painted ceilings, but here’s the problem: I have paint ADD, bad! I feel like I’m always changing paint colors, and I would hate painting that ceiling as often as I change my mind. It’s pretty tough. Especially over the stairs. I hope we don’t have to paint the ceiling again for 15 years haha!

      • Ainhoa

I totally get paint ADD! I’d repaint almost every year if it weren’t such a pain to move things around. And ceilings are the worst. We’ve put off patching and painting ours since we installed recessed lighting three years ago, lol. It’s on the list for next year though ;)

  • Gretchen@BoxyColonial

looking good in there! I can definitely see why you went with that color after seeing it against the flooring :). And you had to take the pictures down over the stairs….does that mean Aaron’s going to have to go back out on the ladder of death to rehang them?!

    • Kenz

Thanks! We are really loving the color. Regarding the pictures… Not sure if we are going to hang those back up in that spot. They might go in the hallway… or I don’t know! We’re waiting a minute before we decide on any artwork.

  • Katie

Aunt Trudy does NOT look amused lol

    • Kenz

haha, she actually had a mouthful of cookie when i snapped the picture

  • Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos

It’s coming along beeeeeutifully! I absolutely LOVE that Rockport color. :)

    • Kenz

Thank you! It’s amazing how much paint can do!

  • Amber @ Wills Casa

Knocking out the list! I love the color choice and think you are genius for already assigning Evelyn ceiling painting duty when she acts up!

    • Kenz

It’s true. It will probably need to be re-painted by the time she is a teenager anyway :)

  • Henriette

Looks great, cant wait to see the finished result! :D

    • Kenz

Thanks miss H! :) We are definitely getting there!

  • anne @ wit wisdom and food

It looks great. I like the color you picked. You are lucky to have so many helping hands that is a big project.
