Luxury For Pennies
Did you guys see that Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw yesterday? Gnarly.
Valentine’s day is coming up. And maybe you want to make yourself a gift, for a romantic night to yourself
If that’s what you’re into. It’s way better than sending yourself a dozen roses from a “secret admirer.”
I saw this post by Everyday Simple (look at item #2) featuring different Valentine’s gifts. The spa-like bath tub caddy stuck out to me, and I thought “Hey! I am 100% capable of making this for myself. Do it to it Lars.”
I had a shload of left over wood from framing out the pillars in the basement.
I measured the width of the bath tub and cut the boards to length. Me and my miter saw. My true tool-love.
I laid it out to make sure it all fit together.
I measured the inside width of the bath tub, and put the cross pieces slightly less than that. So the caddy wouldn’t wiggle around. Nobody likes a wiggly caddy.
I ended up adding a third piece in the middle for support.
Of course I finish nailed it in the basement. That’s where you keep your compressor and nail gun too, right?
Stain stain stain stain! (Minwax Red Mahogany)
And seal it up good with some polyurethane.
My bathroom is nothing fancy. In fact, we haven’t done one bit of work to it. Haven’t even painted it. This caddy transforms an ordinary space into a little splash of luxury.
It’s for my personal “spa” days.
Water + orange slices, sugar free white chocolate pudding + raspberries, good book, and a bubble bath. It is good. And it is a proven recipe to turn people into prunes.
Let’s be real, the magic doesn’t really happen until you turn the lights off.
It is also strong enough to be a bench. Which is perfect for leg-shaving.
As Aaron will demonstrate:
Obviously he has never shaved his legs before. Not sure how much success one can have in this position.
There you have it. This was SO easy. I made a total of 5 straight cuts, and a few nails with a nail gun. The longest part was waiting for the stain and poly to dry.
Now go enjoy yourself some dang bubbles!
What things do YOU do to add luxury to your ordinary life?
